Hinman Instruction
Sarah Hinman
Founder
A true lover of learning and self-described "cool nerd," Sarah has been delivering SAT prep to students across the Capital Region since 2012. She loves working with high school students to help them better their chances for successful college experiences, and is thrilled to have a long list of students who have benefitted from her help.

Sarah founded Hinman Instruction based on her vision of in-depth, detail-oriented, quality instruction which promotes excitement for learning. She understands that "the numbers" - that is, grade-point average and scores on standardized tests like the SAT - are incredibly important for students looking to gain a competitive advantage in college applications and scholarship offers. She knows that most students will benefit immensely from instruction beyond the typical school day to help them improve those numbers. She also knows that students learn better when they understand the "why" behind a concept than when they simply memorize formulas and rules - and she effectively approaches concepts from various angles until that goal is achieved. It is most powerfully this distinction which makes Sarah's instruction unique and effective.

Thanks to over a decade of teaching SAT prep, Sarah knows the test inside and out, and her comprehensive prep course has generated consistent, significant improvement in student scores over their PSAT or previous SAT. Due to this student success, her group classes and one-on-one tutoring schedule continue to fill quickly through word-of-mouth referrals.

Sarah currently teaches 6th-grade ELA and coaches girls' varsity basketball at Ballston Spa School District in upstate New York. She is an avid hiker, exploring mostly the Adirondacks of New York, where she has summited 29 of the 46 High Peaks and many other beautiful mountains. She is working on some other exciting education-focused projects that she looks forward to sharing with you soon!

"When she was a high school freshman, our daughter played basketball for Sarah. We liked the way she approached teaching the game of basketball, so we asked her to tutor our daughter in math. Not only has this been beneficial in terms of her understanding of the subject (she is doing so much better in the classroom), but it has also been good for our daughter to spend time with Sarah. She is just someone you want your child to learn from." - John M., Clifton Park, New York
